manorsManor- large estate that includes farm fields, pastures, and often an entire village.
The manor contained a castle which the king, queen and nobles lived. Also, a church where everyone gathered on Sunday to pray. Going to church was required in the Roman Catholic Church. The manor house was where the king’s family stayed. The peasant and the serf houses were shacks that did not have a lot of heat and was not stable. Peasants and serfs did their work on manor farmlands. The manor was controlled by the king or the lords. The lords had the responsibility of taking care of their manors and all of the people in it. The manors were self-sufficient meaning that they had to grow their own food, and sew their own clothing. |
