Castles

The first of many castles were built out wood and mud. Therefore, when the castles was attacked it would burn because of the wood. People realized the problem and began developing the idea of making the castles out of stone in 1100 C.E. They also made the manor walls out of stone too, which people felt safer by. When a king or noble wanted to build a castle they would build their castle at the highest peak or at the top of a hill. The castle had a lot of rooms and places where people enjoy seeing today. The Keep is where food is stored and also the last line of defense. Castles also had Barracks where the knights usually stayed. The Great Hall is where the king and queen met special guests or a place to feast. The Chapel was a place to hold religious ceremonies or services. And last but not least, the Gatehouse where guards watched the gate. |
